Virgin Airlines has made it that much easier for people to stalk you, by implementing programs that allow you to send food and gifts to other passengers, and then chat with them using the in-flight entertainment console.
Virgin Airlines is one of my favorite airlines. Why? They call themselves Virgin, even though the inside of the cabin looks like a coked-up nightclub wet dream. They also have the most comfortable seats, and the best in-flight entertainment system by far.
Now, to take the next step in turning your flight into an ecstasy-popping night at the bar, they have started a new program that allows you to send other sexy passengers food and gifts. If you like the generosity, you can chat with your admirer using the online chat feature. Then, presumably, you can get boozed up for free and join the mile-high club.
While this idea has merit, I can’t help but think of all the pitfalls. Facebook stalking is bad enough, but having to refuse gifts from some ugly troll on a plane is downright uncomfortable. Also, if you are a chubster and some guy sends you a salad, will you take it as a compliment or an insult?
The idea of making it easier to socialize is one that I am 100% on board with (no pun intended), especially in our current climate of burying our noses in our phones and missing out on actual interaction. The problem I have here, is that when I am on a plane, interacting with a flight attendant is already too taxing. When I fly, I just want to throw on my ear-buds, pull my beanie over my puffy eyes, and sleep. Now you are telling me I should slap on some lipstick in case some guy wants to throw a thimble-sized Chardonnay my way?
